What is Soutien Gorge?
It is a hungarian band which consists of two members. Me (Banyek) and my guitarist friend, Robert Potys. I create every electronic sound in our tracks and Robert…
What is the genre of our music?
I have heard many terms from many people. I’d rather call it IDM and/or experimental chill (oh how many people write this down… maybe i should have written words like “electroacoustic, minimal, interstellar, /mostly/ peaceful”, but everyone knows that those words are…). So I don’t like determining. You’d better listen to the mp3’s.
What have I/we done so far?
As a dj: I played in many radios in Hungary (Tilos, Pararadio, Radio Café, etc.) and also played at a few parties. In 2003 I became a resident and partly an organizer of a hungarian IDM/Experimental party series called Experimentor. In december 2003 I played a set before Dj Cylob (Rephlex - UK).
Probably my greatest experience was Sónar Festival 2004 where I played to a wonderful crowd. I will never forget that. :) I have also played at NewNew! Festival 2006 & 2008 in Brno + Sperm Festival 2007 in Prague. Recently I have played at Audiodigitale - Budapest Nights in Dortmund, Germany. We have an ongoing clubnight series here in Budapest, Hungary titled BommBomm. Music ranges from deeptech/minimal to electro, chiptune, bootlegs and oldschool rave/hardcore.
As a producer: See the detailed discography! I have founded Bitlab Records with Cooler in 2005, and I have also started the free netlabel Complementary Distribution that year. From 2009 I have been creating dubstep/techno/other pieces of music under the name Banyek (have a listen at soundcloud, myspace to see what it’s all about). Also we have started our free series at Cod titled Dubstep Is Fun!
Other things: In the spring of 2004, I became a chief editor at a hungarian music related site, called deepen.hu which died out. I have made a few interviews for the page, for example with Apparat, Ratatat, Freeform, Isan, Arovane, Gimmik, Strategy and Team Doyobi. I write for cloneshit.hu and prae.hu nowadays. I also had some music reviews printed in a Hungarian periodical called Szépirodalmi Figyelő.
Live performances?
Not yet. :( Maybe never. My dream would be to score SG/Banyek tunes for a string quartet. Hence, I only play dj-sets, but we are going to start to work on a live-set soon. I would love to play anywhere anything (from chill-electronica/indie stuff to dancy and clever electro). I don’t care about the money, I’d play anywhere for travelling fees and a bed which I can sleep on. :)
I want to write to you, because I have some other questions. Where should I send it?
You can send me a mail. But hit me up with a message anywhere I can read it…
